Hi guys

Over the past couple of weeks the fishing has been very good for the most part but also quite hard to judge at times with small groups of fish moving through the rivers at high speed. I have been pretty lucky generally and managed to find fish in both the Hine and the Tongariro. The best fishing I had was last weekend in the Hine but I think I should have been at Lake O on the canal as they had a good run of fish enetr there with the dirty water.

We have had some rainy periods which has moved the levels of rivers but we still are yet to receive some proper rain which blows all systems out for a few days and really entices a good solid run of new fish. I think this month is great time to be fishing the area as the fish are generally pretty good ones and the anglers are few and far between so fishing all your favourite runs can actually happen. I know there has been some impressive trout caught in the Waitahanui this year and the Hine has had some really good looking trout also-especially the jacks. The Tongariro got quite alot of attention last weekend but you could still fish pools at your own pace without being hassled along. I was pleased to find a couple of new places below the main road which were holding fish again this season but also good numbers of silver fish in the upper river . I have heard some very good trout have been caught in the Tongariro this season but I have yet to see a Rainbow over the 5 lb mark. Charlie Trotter a client of mine from last Saturday caught a good brown from the Stag pool which was in very condition and just over 5 lb, we caught this when the water was slightly high and coloured from natural rain.

I have heard mixed results from the river mouths but would imagine most to be going quiet at the moment with the full moon here once again. The TT seems to be doing quite well but the drop off where the fish will be laying has some very solid snags which is making productive spots hard to get . The Waitahanui fished well after dark when the moon was down and the lake was calm but the fishing seems to have dropped of here-atleast for the next week anyway. I heard of some guys fishing the delta for the day last week with a local guide and not getting much joy which was surprising to me as I though they may have been stacked up out there awaiting the green light?? I feel the best fishing down that way will again be late into October -November!!
